Yo Yo madness

I have made a lot of these gathered fabric circles for earrings and clips. But then I dint know that they were called yo yo. While browsing the web and few days back, I cam upon this site, where somebody had made a whole bunch of these for a stole.

A sense of Deja vu hit me. Hadn't I seen this sometime in the past....After a lot of thinking and consultation with my mom, I realised that I had done this in my childhood - when I first learnt how to stitch. It must be the mid nineties ( dont remember the year) when I had seen this at a craft competition and quickly replicated it when I got home...So here I am once again revisiting my past (have been doing a lot of that lately) by indulging in some yo yo fun
So If you would like to join me in some Yo yo fun, here is tutorial

I hope you find it interesting

Button Mania

In continuation to my clips & barrets post, in June, here are a few pony tailies (small bands to hold plaits or pony tail hairstyles) inspired by posts from the blog - Little Birdie secrets....
Made from Leftover buttons (from my MG days) are a all you need for a splash of colour...so say hello to Pop art with buttons....
They were originally made a pins but I have converted the same concept into hair bands by stitching a stretchy hair band to it.
If you attach a ring base instead of a stretchy band you'll get button rings. and if you stick them up and put a hook through them they'll become earrings. And with a bail they'll became a pendant..When in doubt to embellish...choose a button..its sits pretty looks quirky. :)

Finally here is my third tutorial on this blog - Five petal flower pony tailer
I am still new to making tutorials so please bear with me...

Hope they inspire you as always

Swaroski Bling

The package I had ordered long back arrived from US and most of the contents were swaroski based. Going through catalogs of different websites abroad, I found crystals and swaroskis to be the general trend now. In the beginning I did work on a lot of crystals and pearls from Pune but slowly withdrew as the trends changed direction; now that they are back in an overflowing supply, Here's a small tribute to the bling trend. crystals and swaroskis that inspire me..Bling Bling !!

Will see ya with more Bling in the future..

Turquoise - colour of the year

Seeing a lot of turquoise lately? It’s because the colour turquoise has been nominated by Pantone as the colour of the year 2010
The geological history of turquoise spans an impressive 40 million years making it one of the oldest gemstones used in jewelry. It has various religious connotations.
Egyptians believed that turquoise was their connection with the many gods and goddesses in heaven. Native American warriors wore turquoise into battle because they considered it to be a protective stone. It is treasured in Tibet and China for its good luck and healing properties. Turquoise along with coral set in silver is considered to have divine powers and is worn during temple festivities and weddings. Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum and looks great with the Indian skin tone.
So Move away Mimosa...Turquoise is here!!

Cheers
